Hello, for firearms that require a permit (either carry or purchase/permit to acquire) you must have the actual permit. You cannot use a carry permit certificate or application. It must be the approved permit from the county for carry or PD for purchase/permit to acquire and must match your current and valid DL/ID. Then you fill out a form 4473 for the NICS federal background check, we submit it to the FBI and you will either get delayed for up to 3 business days, a proceed which means you can leave with the firearm, or denied. Firearms that require a permit are handguns and assault rifles. Long guns such as rifles and shotguns do not require a permit but do require the same background check. Have a great day!
