It depends on the item, mostly. Availability and cost are sometimes not reflected in MSRP and certain stores compensate for that by adjusting their price over that suggested mark. Every store has different margins they have to meet and many times MSRP is not a realistic figure when applying rising operating and item costs. Speaking for our store, specifically, I would say we are pretty competitive, and try to find the happy medium of what's fair for the customer and fair for us. For new guns we definitely try, at the very least, to match or beat any local competition. Sometimes we'll attempt to match the total expense of an online retailer's item to encourage the local shopper to stick with us. Used gun prices mostly depend on what we paid for them, and the current used market value of the item, but selling used guns over MSRP is not something we would typically do at our store. That was the long answer, but hopefully it brought you some insight and answered your question.
